Item # M291206
The memorial locket is pinchbeck. Pinchbeck was popular in the early 1800’s. It is an alloy of copper and zinc which shines like gold. Many travel pieces were made of pinchbeck and real thing was left at home. Its popularity decreased with the legalization of 9kt gold and electroplating. This is a flip locket with a sardonyx conch shell cameo on one side and a finely braided hair memorial on the other. It measures 2” x1 ¾” and is quite collectible. Circa 1880.
