The proposal is carved in ivory. The ivory is carved so very thin. It is attached to the black onyx by small unobtrusive prongs.

The back has 2 opening which could be used to hold a black ribbon. I thought this would make a wonderful topper for a beautiful wedding cake. Circa 1880
