This oversized cameo is carved from Queen conch shell. The relief of the carving is very striking. The carver has captured the classic late Victorian style. The neckline has come down and the flowers in her hair indicate the end of many years of strict dress code. The tunic is influenced by the Victorian fascination with Greeks and Romans. It measures 2" x 1 1/2" and is gilded silver. Circa 1915.
